Wedding Dress Train Wreck?

I recently read an article on Yahoo and I had to post this in case no one else read this. This wedding dress is the new dress in the Guinness World book of records for longest train. The article said that this dress cost (material alone) 7,300 dollars. Imagine the work of this dress also! I've seen the dress's front view and i've got to say its very lovely. A bit to simple but, am loving the lace. This dress though with the cost alone lets not forget the work that went onto this design must be astounding to add to this price tag! The train is 1.85 miles long! Your probably wondering why the hot balloon picture above. Well this dress was so long that it was just easier to carry it via hot air balloon LOL. Rest of the Article is below. What do you guys think though? Is it a a marvelous train? Or did it just end up being a Train wreck. Comments below please ^_^.

Sorry bloggers for taking so long. Its just i've recently taken up running and then I just sorta forgot but! here it is. The finished product of Burda Pattern 7232. This pattern was much more differet than what I was normally used to so it was a bit more complicated and a bit ahhh!!! But it worked! The skirt of the dress is a circle skirt so it was finished with a 2/8's hem. Hardest hem I've done but it was actually easier than I thought. The back's closure is a zipper for the skirt part and snap ons for the bodice back. The gold buttons are there just for decoration. The origina pattern called for a I bealieve a crew neckline and my sister wanted it a V-neck so I converted it to a V-neck. When she posed with the dress, she first did the hair and to me it set the tone for 1940's or 1950's so I thought some a simple pearl necklace would befit the dress nicely. Also she wore a charm and stalking bracelet. Her shoes were lavander peep toe shoes. They were from Vera Wang from Kohls. Anyway what do you guys think? Is the styling good? How do you like the dress? I know it pulls a bit but, it only pulls when pressure but, what does the blog community think? I'd love to hear your thoughts ^_^.

Accsesories:
  • Charm Bracelet: Betsy Johnson via. Gifting Grace, Hippo Safari
  • Stalking Bracelet: Walmart (2 years ago so don't think it'll be there)
  • Shoes: Verra Wang line, Kohls ( 3+ years ago so not sure if its still there
  • Pearl necklace: Gift

*Again sorry for taking so long. The next article I'm going to make though is a paper bag skirt so that shouldn't take me long at all and thank you for those who have been patient in waiting*

Many necklaces and T-shirts Later. . .

Hello Blog community, today I was supposed to finish the Burda pattern but, I instead went out with my sister since I haven't gone out in a while but, I'm almost done with the dress for the most part. Just connecting the top piece with the bottom and buttons and button holes and hem. Simple stuff for the most part... Anyway so I thought I'd get my sister to do a video haul as a consolation prize since I want to be able to blog post like everyday. The video is below. Also for those of you who are intrested, there are links provided below the video to the individual things.

Burda Pattern 7232 (start)

Burda Young Pattern: 7232

Pieces cut out

So this is the beginning of the Burda Pattern # 7232. I've gotta say as my first time working with Burda, I am not used to the lay out and I think its heck of annoying too. When I looked on the back originally for the yards of fabric needed, its a good thing I went with my own instinct. I needed about 4 or 5 yards instead of the 2 yards it suggested. Maybe its because I didn't follow their pattern lay out either but, I like sewing my way but, the fabric was a red tag sale fabric so it was pretty cheap. The pattern calls for both button and zipper closure and my sister liked the back as did I. One thing that I'm doing to alter this however is changing the neckline from a round neck (correct me if I'm wrong) to a V-neckline. Also I'm doing the zipper closure a bit different since I don't own any pinking sheers or a serger so my seams are finished a domestic way. Anyway I haven't finished all my pinning as it also calls for interfacing so I've gotta cut out the interfacing tomorrow and finally start sewing. I'm excited to see how this turns out and I can't wait to show the blog community as well.

(If any of you guys didn't know, a serge is one of the most common finishes on mass produced garments. Its what you see on seams like the arm hole.)

On a side note, I don't know if any of you guys listen to music while you sew but I do and this song really is pretty catchy and I like the momentum is gives you. Video down below. Its Korean pop music for those of you who are wondering (K-pop).

I <3 Kitties

Welcome to my first blog post everyone.

This dress was a request from my sister, the pattern was bought from Joannes I believe a year or two ago and when she said she wanted this dress made I said I have something that will work. I used Simplicity Pattern 2362, the fabric was bought from Joanne's discount red tag fabric and is 100% cotton. I chose and like and usually work with 100% because its breathable and is one of the better fabrics for sensitive skin. As for the color she chose it, I just said choose 100%.

As for the process it was a bit tedious in the beginning. I had to first measure my sister and found her measurements fluctuated from the original sizes I remember her having. Also when I looked at the pocket pieces I was both intrigued since I didn't know if this was an inset pocket or patch pocket. The original pattern also called for a zipper and wasn't made to be converted into a tie back but, I wasn't concerned about it since that was the last thing I was worried about. It was the V you see in the back which was the point I wanted to get but, not so deep where it showed her panties. I eventually came up with the idea of using the regular 7 inch's down the top of the skirt pattern and stopping it there and then pulling it wide across enough but, also careful of the stress I created and the puckers it could create. The other problem was the excess fabric I ran into. When I ran into that I originally wanted to make darts but, since I altered the waist of the skirt pattern I didn't have enough so I then created pleats since I thought it would be cute idea and still look nice. After I tried it I was pleased with the outcome but, I just was safe since it also did create a bit of a poof effect around the skirt. What you don't see on the pictures is that in the front of the dress, on the waist line there are also pleats both on the waist and below the sweetheart neckline where it dipped. The pleats were just an 1 and 1/2 inch folded and doubled stitched. Once to hold the fabric and another for decoration. Any questions and please ask in the comments questions.

(Note: Darts are used to take in excess unwanted fabric)

Sorry this is so long.
